
Over 300 relief camps readied, waterlogging being addressed: Chennai Corporation

To address waterlogging, the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) has deployed 1,686 motor pumps, including 137 high-capacity 100 HP pumps and 484 tractor-mounted pumps. Waterlogging was reported in 134 locations, with drainage work completed in eight areas and efforts ongoing in 126 sites.

Tree removal operations using 489 specialised machines, including hydraulic and telescopic equipment, are underway. Nine trees fell due to rain on Saturday, of which five have been cleared. All 22 subways remain operational except Ganeshapuram, which is temporarily closed for railway bridge work.
The GCC has placed 329 relief centres on standby, equipped them with food, water, and sanitation facilities. Rescue operations are supported by 103 boats. Since 15 October, 2,615 medical camps have benefited over 1.39 lakh people.
The civic body has addressed 39,619 complaints out of 47,873 received via its helpline. Over 22,000 personnel and 18,500 volunteers are engaged in ongoing relief efforts.
