Ottawa sees 50-75 mm of rain in 90 minutes, flooding roads and properties

Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Ottawa, saying Ottawa could see up to 125 mm of rain. The Ottawa climate weather station recorded 48.7 mm of rain in one hour.
Heavy rain flooded roads and sidewalks across the city of Ottawa on Thursday afternoon, as a severe storm moved across the national capital region.
Environment Canada says between 50 and 75 mm of rain was recorded across the city of Ottawa by 1 p.m., approximately 90 minutes after the rain started. The weather station at the Central Experimental Farm received 53 mm of rain by 1 p.m.
A section of Woodroffe Avenue near Hunt Club Road is closed due to flooding, while several residents reported one to two feet puddles on roads across the city. Residents reported heavy rain, hail falling and strong winds over the lunch hour.
Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm warning, warning some areas could see up to 125 mm of rain and nickel size hail.
"At 1:14 PM EDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a line of severe thunderstorms capable of producing strong wind gusts, up to toonie size hail and heavy rain," Envivonment Canada said in a statement.
"This line of severe thunderstorms is located from near Gatineau and Ottawa then extending southwestward to western Lanark County."
