Ottawa moves to expand CRA audit powers. What you should know

With the April 30 tax filing deadline looming, Canadians have something else to stress out about.
Hidden away in this month’s federal budget is a proposal to significantly expand the audit powers of the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA), and crack down on those who don’t comply.
The move stems from a 2018 Report of by the Office of the Auditor General, which finds requests for information from taxpayers are often ignored.
An estimated three million Canadians will receive a notice from the CRA that their income tax returns are being "reviewed".
