Ottawa firefighters responded to a fire at a gas station on Cyrville Road Monday morning.
Crews were called just before 10 a.m. for a fire at the Saab station just east of St. Laurent Boulevard.
Thick black smoke could be seen rising from the building.
"The fire had completely engulfed the mechanical shop section of the gas station but had not yet reached the fuel pumps," Ottawa Fire Services (OFS) said in a news release. "Due to the quick response, combined with the fast attack, the fire was extinguished before it could reach the gas pumps."
Crews had to deal with several hazards, including the fuel pumps, multiple propane tanks, a propane refill station, tires, and highly flammable fluids and oils inside the mechanical shop. Hazardous material crews also deployed booms to prevent contaminated water from the firefight from getting into the sewer system.
"A fire investigator is currently on scene to determine the cause and origin of the fire," OFS said.
Road closures were in effect in the area while fire crews remain on scene.
