In the future, there will be hundreds of meetings where two women introduce themselves saying, “Hi, my name is Olivia” as a second says, “Me too.”
That is because the province released a list of the top baby names in Ontario for 2020 and Olivia was tops among girls for the 11th year running, according to a release from the Ministry of Government and Consumer Services.
A ministry spokesperson told Global News that the preliminary numbers show 762 babies were named Olivia across the province last year. This is down from 933 a year earlier.
There have now been close to 10,000 Olivias born in Ontario since 2010.
Olivia isn’t alone in the ongoing popularity contest as Charlotte and Emma have also been in the top five since 2017.
It probably isn’t because of actress Isla Fisher, but Isla was the lone newcomer in the girls’ top 10, finishing as the seventh most popular name in 2020.
The rest of the top 10 included Amelia, Sophia, Ava, Chloe, Evelyn and Mia.
For the boys, it was another strong year for Oasis names as Noah and Liam finished No. 1 and No. 2, which is a flip-flop from 2019 rankings.
