In a tweet posted at 10:26 a.m. Wednesday, police said it happened in the area of Old Chicopee Drive and River Road in Kitchener.
Details are currently limited, but Ontario’s police watchdog has confirmed it is aware of the incident and investigators are on their way to the scene.
Police tape is blocking off a parking lot behind a row of townhomes in the area.
Officials have not said whether the person injured was shot by police. The severity of their injuries has also not been released.
People who live in the area say it was a quiet morning, but they saw an ambulance speed away followed by officers on foot in the area.
They say it’s unusual to see this kind of police activity in what’s typically a quiet neighbourhood.
