Mounties said they responded to shots fired near 196 Street and 84 Avenue around 6:00 p.m. and found two men suffering from gunshot wounds.
One victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while the other was taken to hospital and is expected to survive, police said.
In an update Sunday afternoon, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said the deceased victim has been identified and is known to police, but they are not releasing his name pending notification of his family.
Investigators say initial evidence indicates the shooting was targeted and linked to the ongoing gang conflict in B.C.
“Homicide investigators are liaising with the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of BC to determine how the victims are associated to each other and how this relates to the ongoing gang conflict,” Staff Sgt. David Lee with IHIT said in a release.
No suspects have been identified.
