The cornerstone of the White House was laid under the supervision of President George Washington on Oct. 13, 1792. John Adams became the first president to live in the mansion on Nov. 1, 1800.
"It was planned and constructed under the personal supervision of President George Washington." The name of the mansion was officially changed to the White House by President Theodore Roosevelt on Oct. 12, 1901. Kerry J. Byrne is a lifestyle reporter with Fox News Digital.
