On this day in 2007: MS Dhoni masterminded a spectacular bowl-out victory for india in their first-ever competitive T20 World Cup match against arch-rivals Pakistan. India went on to win the T20 World Cup, thereby becoming the champions of the inaugural edition of the tournament.

MS Dhoni's celebrated journey as one of the best India captains began on this day, 14 years ago. Dhoni was named India's captain for the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup after India's World Cup debacle in the same year. With senior stars, including Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid opting out of the shortest format, a relatively young Indian side was led by MS Dhoni. After India's tournament opener against Scotland was washed out without a ball bowled, India faced arch-rivals Pakistan at Kingsmead in Durban.
