Ramanathapuram district administration employees demand renovation of old Collector office building due to structural damages and neglect.
Government staff and employees of Ramanathapuram district administration demand for the renovation of the old Collector office building.
As the building, which housed several important offices, has been there for more than 20 years without any overhaul, exposure to sunlight and harsh rains have damaged the structure, said sources.
“The building which has the Chief Education Office, District Education office, mahila court, Assistant Commissioner-Excise office, National Highways land acquisition office, among others, without any proper maintenance, has suffered damages to the building structure,” said Tamil Nadu Government Employees Association district president L. Vijayaramalingam.
Due to continuous water seepage through the walls and intrusive growth of plants on the walls, several cracks had been formed on the building over the years, he added.
As the pipelines fixed inside the building have been damaged, the water leaking through it exacerbates the cracks and other damages to the building, he noted.
Similarly, another building opposite to the new Collector building, which houses treasury, Cooperative Department Joint Director’s office, Social Welfare Department office, panchayat union audit office, Agricultural engineering office, post office, among others, was also in the same condition, requiring immediate renovation and maintenance, said Mr. Vijayaramalingam.
Though several representations were made to the Public Works Department officials, the renovations works were yet to be started, he lamented.
