Oh Manapenne Movie Review: Harish Kalyan, Priya Bhavani Shankar live up to Pelli Choopulu
India Today
Director Kaarthikk Sundar's Oh Manapenne, starring Harish Kalyan and Priya Bhavani Shankar, is a faithful remake of Pelli Choopulu. Priya delivers a standout performance, says our review.
Before Arjun Reddy, it was director Tharun Bhascker's National Award-winning film Pelli Choopulu that brought out the best in Vijay Deverakonda. Similarly, it introduced a powerhouse performer like Ritu Varma to the film industry. Pelli Choopulu, which was released in 2016, spearheaded a change in Telugu cinema. The film felt refreshing to watch and, even after five years, it evokes the same emotion.
Thankfully, the Tamil remake titled Oh Manapenne lives up to the charm of Pelli Choopulu. Director Kaarthikk Sundar seems to have understood the soul of Pelli Choopulu and recreated it in Tamil without losing the charm. There lies a faithful remake that still manages to put a smile on our faces despite the story being five years old.
