NSA watchdog opens review of Tucker Carlson spying allegations
CBSN
Washington — The internal watchdog for the National Security Agency (NSA) has opened a review into allegations that the agency targeted the communications of Fox News host Tucker Carlson, who in June accused the agency of "spying" on him, an official familiar with the matter confirmed.
Robert Storch, the agency's inspector general, said his office has begun "examining NSA's compliance with applicable legal authorities and Agency policies and procedures regarding collection, analysis, reporting, and dissemination activities, including unmasking procedures, and whether any such actions were based upon improper considerations." While Storch did not explicitly name Carlson, the official familiar with the matter confirmed the host's allegations were the focus of the review.Ashley White received her earliest combat action badge from the United States Army soon after the first lieutenant arrived in Afghanistan. The silver military award, recognizing soldiers who've been personally engaged by an attacker during conflict, was considered an achievement in and of itself as well as an affirming rite of passage for the newly deployed. White had earned it for using her own body to shield a group of civilian women and children from gunfire that broke out in the midst of her third mission in Kandahar province. All of them survived. She never mentioned the badge to anyone in her battalion.
