A northern Ontario driver faces multiple charges following a traffic stop on Highway 17 East last week.
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said, in a social media post, that members of the Mattawa detachment stopped a black pick-up truck that was towing a trailer travelling at a high rate of speed in Bonfield.
“(The truck was) travelling 132 km/h in a posted 90 km/h zone on Highway 17 East,” said police.
Following further investigation, the 38-year-old driver from Mactier faces multiple charges under the Highway Traffic Act and the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.
The accused was charged with speeding, driving while under suspension, failing to surrender insurance, failing to surrender a permit, driving a motor vehicle with no valid permit and for not having mudguards on the vehicle stopped.
None of the accusations has been proven in court.
“Expect to see increased patrols by the OPP this weekend on our roadways, trails and waterways,” said provincial police.
