No T20 World Cup, no problem. Bangladesh rolls out their own domestic T20 Cup
India Today
Following the ICC's decision to replace Bangladesh with Scotland for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has moved swiftly to address the gap, announcing the launch of a new domestic tournament—the ODOMMO Bangladesh T20 Cup 2026.
In the wake of the ICC's decision to replace Bangladesh with Scotland in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has acted promptly, unveiling a new domestic competition, the ODOMMO Bangladesh T20 Cup 2026 in that window. ODOMMO, which means "indomitable" in Bangla, will be held from February 5 to 9 and will feature three teams, Dhumketu XI, Durbar XI and Duronto XI, with the tournament designed to bring the country's leading white-ball talent under one roof during the global event window.
Bangladesh T20I captain Litton Kumar Das will lead Dhumketu XI, Najmul Hossain Shanto has been named captain of Durbar XI, while Akbar Ali will skipper Duronto XI. The tournament follows the BCB's decision not to travel to India for the T20 World Cup, a call that reportedly did not find favour with several players, including Litton, and eventually led to Scotland replacing Bangladesh in the competition.
The BCB has insisted that the ODOMMO Bangladesh T20 Cup will be a competitive event rather than a symbolic replacement. According to the board, the tournament will carry total prize money and player fees worth Tk 2.5 crore, approximately Rs 1.87 crore.
"We will be giving match fees along with other things. We are expecting to announce a good amount of prize money and all these efforts are taken to make sure that the tournament is competitive," a BCB official was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
In an official statement, the board said, "Three teams will feature in this exciting competition with prize money and fees worth Taka 2.5 Crore." Another official added that measures were being taken to ensure that the tournament does not turn into a friendly affair.
"We will be giving match fees along with other things. We are expecting to announce a good amount as prize money and all these efforts are taken to make sure that the tournament is competitive," the official reiterated.
