Minister for Municipal Administration K.N. Nehru flagged off the buses at the Central Bus Stand. Mayor M. Anbazhagan, Tiruchi City Corporation Commissioner V. Saravanan, and Managing Director TNSTC Kumbakonam R. Ponmudi were present.
According TNSTC sources, about 430 Mahalir Vidiyal Payanam buses were operated in Tiruchi and nearly 2.98 lakh women travel by them every day.
An official release said that the Tiruchi region has been allotted 173 new buses and of these 110 have been commissioned. Fifty of them were running in Tiruchi City and the rest on mofussil routes. The remaining 63 new buses (26 for city service and 37 for mofussil routes) would be commissioned soon, the release added.
