NFL Preview 2021: League kicks off second season during pandemic

The NFL will kick off its 102nd season Thursday, and despite fascinating headlines around stars like Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady, the league will be playing under the shadow of the Covid-19 pandemic, and amidst growing public concern about the Delta variant.
"Our challenge is right now -- we are in a major surge," said NFL Chief Medical Officer Allen Sills during a recent media call. "It is no secret. ... what the impact of the Delta variant is having." It's the league's second season during the pandemic, but this time around, it looks different.
