Newsom stands behind Biden's new Covid vaccine requirements as he fights California recall

California Gov. Gavin Newsom backed President Joe Biden's newly announced coronavirus vaccine requirements during a news conference on Friday, telling reporters that he "broadly" supports the move and the "President's intentionality."
The governor, who is in the final days of fighting an attempt to recall him from office, also used Biden's announcement to draw a sharp contrast with Republican Larry Elder, his top opponent in the Tuesday election. Newsom and Elder have been sparring over Covid for weeks, with Newsom pledging to keep up his stringent rules to fight the pandemic while Elder promises to reverse many of the Democrat's orders should he become governor. "I broadly do. I support the President's intentionality. I support his call to finish the job," Newsom said in response to a question from CNN. "We have the solution to this pandemic. Now we have to complete the task, we have to finish the job. And that is what the President asserted, a little more formally. I applaud him for that."
Janet Mills and her allies are counting on a gender gap to narrow Platner’s wide lead ahead of the June 9 primary to decide who will face incumbent Republican Sen. Susan Collins. They are betting that the unfiltered style that has brought Platner widespread attention as someone who could help Democrats reach young men will backfire with women.

As a shrinking number of Transportation Security Administration agents work to keep hourslong security lines moving despite not being paid, President Donald Trump stepped into the fray Saturday, announcing he will send Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers to airports by Monday if Congress doesn’t agree to a plan to end the partial government shutdown.
