New York Gov. Kathy Hochul signed a slate of bills on Monday that aim to protect out-of-state patients and abortion providers from legal action in other states.
The Democratic-sponsored bills are designed to make the state a haven for abortion seekers and providers, as conservative states seek to curtail abortion rights through restrictive legislation or bans, with the Supreme Court expected to overturn Roe v. Wade this month.
Speaking from The Great Hall at Cooper Union in New York City, Hochul said the laws would protect against what she described as the "persistent assault on women's rights and a women's right to determine and make her own decisions about her own body."

Janet Mills and her allies are counting on a gender gap to narrow Platner’s wide lead ahead of the June 9 primary to decide who will face incumbent Republican Sen. Susan Collins. They are betting that the unfiltered style that has brought Platner widespread attention as someone who could help Democrats reach young men will backfire with women.

As a shrinking number of Transportation Security Administration agents work to keep hourslong security lines moving despite not being paid, President Donald Trump stepped into the fray Saturday, announcing he will send Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers to airports by Monday if Congress doesn’t agree to a plan to end the partial government shutdown.
