USA TODAY
Learn how much new flooring costs, like material and installation prices, key cost drivers and what affects the final budget. We asked the experts.
New flooring costs comprise a large portion of your home renovation budget, but the exact price depends heavily on the type of flooring you choose, as it affects both material and labor costs.
To find out just how much you can expect to spend on new floors, we interviewed home experts Joe Marchionni, Owner of Amity Home Maintenance Solutions, and Jennifer Homeyer, CEO of The Design House. They explained what flooring materials cost, the impact prep work can have on your total, and other factors you should consider.
Let’s break down the real cost of new floors.
According to our home improvement experts, installing new flooring in your home costs anywhere from $2.25 to $32 per square foot total. That includes between $0.75 and $20 per square foot for materials and $1.50 to $12 per square foot for labor.
Your price depends mostly on the type of flooring material you want to install. Carpet and laminate are the most affordable and fall toward the lower end of the price range, while luxury materials like hardwood and natural stone tile push you closer to the upper end of that range.
