
NCC Director-General visits Kannur

Lt. Gen. Gurbirpal Singh reviews NCC activities in north Kerala, focusing on rural outreach and expanding cadet enrollment.
Lt. General Gurbirpal Singh, Director-General, National Cadet Corps (NCC), interacted with cadets of NCC units at Thalassery in Kannur on Saturday (April 19).
A release said that the official also reviewed the ongoing expansion of NCC’s activities in north Kerala, with a special focus on rural outreach, including raising a new battalion at Kasaragod to meet the growing demand for coverage in the region. Currently, 5,000 cadets are enrolled from 50 institutions across Kannur district. Brigadier M.R. Subodh, Group Commander NCC Group Kozhikode, and other senior officials were present. As part of his visit, Mr. Singh also interacted with the Commandant of the Defence Security Corps Centre in Kannur to enhance synergy between the Indian Army and NCC, especially in training and sharing of resources. He would visit other districts in the region in the coming days, the release added.

Currently, only the services in the 32 series stop at the section of the road adjacent to the Broadway terminus, temporarily closed on account of reconstruction work. Small traders association tells R. Ragu that ensuring the services now accommodated at the temporary terminus at Island Grounds stop at NSC Bose road would benefit visitors to the markets in Parrys

The silent reading movement in the Mylapore-Mandaveli-RA Puram area showed up first at Nageswara Rao Park around two years ago, with modest ambitions, when Balaji launched it along with other reading enthusiasts from the region. This initiative has now moved parks, and seems to set to get entrenched in one. Due to renovation work at Nageswara Park, the reading session became irregular. With the Nageswara Rao park work gaining more surface area, it had to be shifted elsewhere. And it seems set to continue with a newly discovered green patch in RK Nagar in the Sundays to follow.
