Narikurava community in TN demands change in certification from MBC to ST

The demand to change their community certification to Schedule Tribe (ST) comes after members of the Narikurava community, especially the first-time graduates, had been unable to find work.

In Kanchipuram's Uttaramerur in Tamil Nadu, members of the Narikurava community have come forward with the demand of changing their community certification to Schedule Tribe (ST) from the existing most backward class (MBC).

Narikuravas or gypsies are traditionally hunter-gatherers and are people who kept changing their place of stay. But with the change in time and ban on hunting, these people have been trying to find alternate sources of livelihood.
