My parents survived the Holocaust. They gave us 5 lessons on living well

Shony Alex Braun's music helped him survive four death camps during the Holocaust. A timely, new documentary tells his story and shows how his family made his final wish come true.

Dinah Braun Griffin is the daughter of Holocaust survivors Shony Alex Braun and Shari Mendelovits. In 2023, Dinah fulfilled her father’s final wish by traveling with her Los Angeles-based family (husband Bob and two children Sierra and Dane) to Poland, where Shony’s 15-minute "Symphony of the Holocaust" was played at the Auschwitz-Birkenau gates "to bring some beauty to a horrible place."

My father was a child violin prodigy, who began to play at 4 years old. But his future as a musician was interrupted at the young age of 13 when he was taken with his family by the Nazis to the infamous Auschwitz death camp. After being separated from his mother and younger sister at the gates, he learned they were tragically murdered in the camp’s gas chamber.
