Protests erupted in Kerala’s Kozhikode after a Class 11 girl was denied entry to school for wearing a hijab.
Protests broke out in Kerala’s Kozhikode after a Class 11 student was allegedly denied entry to school for wearing a hijab.
Muslim bodies, the Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO), and the Muslim Students Federation (MSF) held protests outside Providence Girls Higher Secondary School in Kozhikode after a Class 11 girl was allegedly not allowed to attend classes for wearing a hijab (headscarf).
School authorities said they had informed the girl and her parents about the matter. The student discontinued her studies after her parents and family members intervened and the management did not change its stance.

The Muslim student groups want the education department to take away the school's affiliation because of taking the ‘anti-constitutional’ step.
Police have begun dispersing the crowd which was stopped in front of the school by using barricades.
The incident comes at a time when anti-hijab protests are rocking Iran and several other countries. For more than a week, Iran has been facing massive protests by women against the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who had been detained by the country’s "morality police" for violating the Islamic nation's conservative dress code. The incident has unleashed a flood of simmering anger among women in the country.
