Mumbaikars and members of the Watchdog Foundation decided to take matters in their own hands as they painted potholes in Andheri East to alert motorists driving on that stretch of road.

A peaceful form of protest was held in Marol on Church Road to act as a warning sign towards bad, damaged roads and also to mock the BMC, which is largely being held responsible for not ensuring good quality, drivable roads.
On Day 1, the protesters sported white attire and painted over stones and the poor roads. Activists will color the potholes based on the Navratri code to draw the attention of BMC.
And on Dussehra, a Ravana of corruption in road contracts will be burnt in front of the potholes.
Godfrey Pimenta, activist and advocate and of Watchdog Foundation said "This is a 2 decades old problem, in which there has been no improvement. Thousands of crores are spent on roads, yet this is what the people of this city get. This 'road festival' is to draw the attention of BMC who are turning a blind eye to this issue. It is a nexus between the corrupt politicians and officials. The ground reality is very different, the BMC has left the people to fend for themselves."
The protestors also questioned the civic body's inability to act against and connive with corrupt road contractors who use substandard quality materials.
Dadarao Bilhore, nicknamed 'Pothole Warrior' lost his son in 2015 in a horrific bike accident after his two-wheeler entered a huge pothole filled with water. Since then, he has been physically filling up potholes, something the BMC should have been doing.
