Msheireb Properties, the national real estate developer and a subsidiary of Qatar Foundation, announced Tuesday that five townhouse Majalis at Msheireb Downtown Doha have been awarded LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold Certificates. Developed by the US Green Building Council, the LEED Gold Green Building Certification is the most widely used green building rating system in the world and an international symbol of excellence. The Certification awarded to the townhouses Majalis add to the existing 32 LEED Platinum and other 37 LEED Gold Certificates for buildings and projects at Msheireb Downtown Doha, making the destination with one of the highest concentrations of LEED-certified sustainable buildings. This also adds to the credentials of Msheireb Downtown Doha as the world's first sustainable downtown regeneration project. Through design, construction and operations practices that enhance environmental and human health, LEED-certified buildings help to make the world more sustainable. Msheireb Properties developed its flagship project Msheireb Downtown Doha as one of the smartest and most sustainable city districts in the world. With all Gold or Platinum LEED-certified buildings, the development adheres to the highest standards in green building and smart services. Msheireb Properties aims to enrich and enhance people's lives by building the most sustainable and smartest city that is an ideal destination for living, leisure, and business. In a press statement, Eng Ali al-Kuwari, acting CEO of Msheireb Properties, said: “We are honoured to be awarded the LEED Gold Certificate for our townhouses Majalis at Msheireb Downtown Doha. This is another testament to our adherence to sustainability practices, to make it a destination of choice living, working and leisure. Winning the certification further upholds our vision to lead the future trends of construction in Qatar and the region and enhances the reputation of Msheireb Downtown Doha as one of the most sustainable districts in the world.” The five Majalis at Msheireb Downtown Doha achieved LEED Gold certification for implementing practical and measurable strategies and solutions in areas such as sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection, and indoor environmental quality. “The LEED Gold certification for Msheireb Townhouses Majalis demonstrates green building leadership,” said Mahesh Ramanujam, president and CEO, USGBC. “LEED was created to make the world a better place and revolutionise our buildings and communities by providing everyone with access to healthy, green and high-performing buildings. Msheireb Downtown Doha is a prime example of how the innovative work of project teams can create local solutions that contribute to making a global difference.” Certification is proof that buildings are going above and beyond to ensure the space is constructed and operated to the highest level of sustainability. More than 106,000 commercial and institutional projects are currently participating in LEED, more than 180 countries and territories.
