MP government to introduce 'happiness' as a subject in schools

The Madhya Pradesh government is considering introducing 'happiness' as a subject in its curriculum for higher secondary school classes.
The Madhya Pradesh government is contemplating introducing 'happiness' as a subject in the high school syllabus of its higher secondary school classes in the state for the upcoming academic session, an official informed on Monday. Speaking to the news agency PTI, Rajya Anand Sansthan CEO Akhilesh Argal said that the books on the subject for Classes 9 to 12 are almost ready.
Madhya Pradesh had become the first state in the country to establish a happiness department in 2016.
The state education department CEO then said, "In November (last year), we gave a presentation on the subject to 80-odd teachers or trainers here. The following month, we interacted with 80 students from Classes 9 to 12 for five days and discussed the happiness book draft. Their response to the subject was very encouraging."
The MP School Education Department, All India Council of Technical Education and other organisations are also helping the project, the CEO informed further.
Adding to his remarks, he said, "After giving final touches to the books, they will be sent to the State Council of Education Research and Training (SCERT) for clearance."
He informed further that the new subject will be compulsory for students from Class 9 to Class 12, while also adding that Madhya Pradesh would possibly be the first state across country where the subject will be introduced.
He went on to inform that the the Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan had given a presentation on the works started by Rajya Anand Sansthan and the state's plan to introduce happiness as a subject in school syllabus during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's interaction with chief ministers from BJP-ruled states at Varanasi in December last year.
