A Montreal couple says their 33-year-old son was killed in the attacks led by Hamas militants last weekend in Israel and that, during his final moments, he put his life in harm's way to save others.
Alexandre Look's family has confirmed said their son was among the hundreds of people who were killed during a raid at an electronic music festival, in a rural area near the Gaza-Israel border, as part of the massive, unprecedented attacks.
His mother, Raquel Ohnona, recounted the panicked video call call she received Saturday around 11:30 p.m. Montreal time from her son, who was under attack during the Hamas incursion.
"We thought there were rockets, so we advised him to find shelter quickly, because he was in a car and we heard that they were shooting at cars and anything that moved," Ohnona recounted in an interview with Noovo Info on Monday.
Her son temporarily ended the call to find a safe space.
"They were trying to stay pretty positive and he was talking to me," she recalled. "They came out of the shelter and he wanted to observe. Alex was very smart. We were talking and we saw from a distance a white pickup with lots of terrorists holding their machine guns."
She described the sounds on the other end of the call like a "horror movie," saying she heard gunshots in the distance. Then, there was nothing.
