MoL organises campaign for workers on preventing heat stress risks

Doha, Qatar: The Ministry of Labour (MoL), represented by the Occupational Safety and Health Department, in cooperation with Qatar Cleaning Company and with the participation of the Health Promotion Department at the Ministry of Public Health, yesterday organised an awareness campaign for the company’s workers. 

The campaign aimed to raise their awareness of the risks of heat stress in outdoor workplaces, ways to prevent it, and to familiarise them with key occupational safety and health requirements at work sites.

The campaign forms part of the Ministry of Labour’s efforts to provide a safe and healthy work environment for all, enhance worker protection during the summer period, increase awareness of the health challenges associated with high temperatures, and educate workers on proper guidelines and sound practices to minimise injuries and accidents.

Specialists from the Occupational Safety and Health Department at the Ministry of Labour and the Health Promotion Department at the Ministry of Public Health gave detailed explanations of the symptoms of heat stress, including excessive sweating, severe fatigue, dizziness, nausea, rapid heartbeat, and headaches. In some cases, these may develop into heatstroke, a medical emergency requiring urgent intervention.

The campaign also focused on highlighting the main methods of preventing heat stress, such as taking regular breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas, drinking sufficient water at regular intervals, wearing light-coloured clothing, and avoiding excessive physical exertion during peak hours. Workers were further briefed on how to reduce health risks caused by heat stress.
