Mitch McConnell Is In The Hospital For 'Flu-Like Symptoms'

The 83-year-old Kentucky Republican reportedly went to the hospital "in an abundance of caution," his spokesperson said.
Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), 83, checked himself into the hospital for “flu-like symptoms” on Monday night, “in an abundance of caution,” his spokesperson David Popp told HuffPost Tuesday.
“His prognosis is positive and he is grateful for the excellent care he is receiving. He is in regular contact with his staff and looks forward to returning to Senate business,” Popp added.
According to the Senate website, McConnell missed votes on Monday and Tuesday.
The news of his current hospitalization came after multiple falls, including one in October 2025, which sent him to the hospital. He has also required help getting through the Capitol, Politico reported.
McConnell survived polio when he was a child, and the illness left him with a limp. There was also a moment in 2023 when he froze in the middle of a press conference, prompting a discourse about his age, health and ability to continue working.
