Missouri gun rights law is impeding criminal investigations, Justice Department says

A new Missouri state law that blocks state and local law enforcement from enforcing federal gun laws has already impeded criminal investigations, the Justice Department said in a court filing Wednesday supporting a legal effort to overturn the law.
Missouri Gov. Mike Parson, a Republican, signed the "Second Amendment Preservation Act" in June. The city of St. Louis filed a lawsuit seeking to block the law shortly afterward. The law, which is expected to go in effect later this month, "prohibits state and local cooperation with federal officials that attempt to enforce any laws, rules, orders, or actions that violate the Second Amendment rights of Missourians," according to Parson's office.President Joe Biden is expected to announce an executive order as early as Tuesday that would effectively shut down the US-Mexico border to asylum-seekers crossing illegally when a daily threshold of crossings is exceeded – a sweeping and controversial proposal that is likely to receive fierce pushback from progressives and immigration advocates.
In the days and weeks leading up Hunter Biden’s trial on felony gun charges, President Joe Biden made little attempt to distance himself from his son. Instead, Hunter Biden was seen at the White House and in Delaware at his father’s side amid what the president’s allies acknowledge is a difficult moment for both men.
