Miramichi man questions why Liberal MLA blocked him on Facebook

A Miramichi man is questioning why the Liberal MLA who represents him in the New Brunswick Legislature has blocked him from his Facebook page.
Caleb Donnelly says Miramichi Bay-Neguac MLA Sam Johnston blocked him last fall after he posted questions on Johnston’s Facebook page about the timeline for opening the new Natoaganeg Crossing Bridge, which replaced the Anderson Bridge.
Not long afterward, Donnelly discovered he’d been blocked from Johnston’s page.
“I think it lacks transparency," Donnelly said. "I think it’s weird that I would get blocked after asking an honest question.
“I want to say it was a direct question, a simple Yes or No. By no means am I attacking him. It was just a question purely out of curiosity.”
Last October, the province said it would try to speed up completion of the new bridge after an accident damaged the old bridge, making it unusable.
The closure forced drivers to use a 29-kilometre detour.
In a screen capture image provided by Donnelly, he asks Johnston what the timeline was for finishing the bridge before the accident.
“Why? At this point what does it matter?” Johnston responded.
Donnelly answered that “some people might think” that the Holt Liberals were taking credit for finishing the bridge quickly because of the accident.
“Regardless it’s good to see the light at the end of the tunnel.”
Johnston did in fact take credit in the legislature on Nov. 4.
“This government finally opened the new bridge, allowing the good people of Miramichi to have better access into and out of our region,” he said.
Donnelly said at first he assumed there was a mistake, so he sent emails to Johnston, Premier Susan Holt and Liberal caucus chair Natacha Vautour but got no response.
