Minister for Handlooms and Textiles R. Gandhi officially inaugurated a mini handloom park at Jeeva Nagar, Emanneswaram near Paramakudi here on Wednesday
The project which followed the announcement made by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin during the 2023-2024 budget session, enabled the establishment of 10 mini handloom parks across the State at an initial estimate of ₹2 crore each. This specific park was constructed on land owned by the Paramakudi-Emanneswaram Industrial Weavers Cooperative Society.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Gandhi said that the Chief Minister has significantly increased the project’s funding ceiling from ₹2 crore to ₹5 crore.
While the current phase of the park was completed at a cost of ₹1.22 crore, the remaining ₹3.80 crore would be utilized to further expand the society’s facilities and technical capabilities.
“The park is designed with a clear economic target, ensuring that every weaver can earn a daily wage of up to ₹1,000. Currently, 40 specialised machines have been installed, providing direct employment to 40 weavers and indirect support to another 90,” he added.
The Minister informed that work was already under way to install 60 additional machines within the complex.
