
Mets stunningly fail to sign top pick Kumar Rocker

The Mets have decided on a future that won’t include their first-round pick in this year’s draft, pitcher Kumar Rocker.
After expressing concerns about the Vanderbilt right-hander’s elbow, the team announced no agreement had been reached with Rocker, the 10th overall pick in the draft, by Sunday’s 5 p.m. deadline. “Clearly this is not the outcome we had hoped for and wish Kumar nothing but success moving forward,” acting general manager Zack Scott said in a statement. “We’re excited about the players we have signed and look forward to watching them develop and contribute to the organization in the years to come.”

Cade Cunningham, almost inarguably the best player in the East this season, is likely out for the remainder of the regular season. That’s the word out of Detroit following the depressing news that Cunningham punctured a lung when he took a knee to his side Tuesday from Washington’s Tre Johnson while chasing a loose ball.
