New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party has alleged that BJP-ruled MCD has not fulfilled the promises made to the sanitation workers due to which there is a possibility of strike again in Delhi.
AAP spokesperson Saurabh Bhardwaj said that the BJP did not take any steps for regularisation of sanitation workers, providing cashless medical cards. He said that the reason behind the poor sanitation of Delhi is the fact that for 15 years, not a single temporary or permanent sanitation worker was recruited by the MCD. He further said that retired employees have not been given retirement benefits including PF even after two years.
“For the past few months, the Safai Karamcharis of the MCDs have been on strike. This has been widely seen, especially in the North MCD area, throughout various zones. The BJP office was also gheraoed by the Karamcharis who wanted to keep their longstanding demands in front of them. In the last 5 years, the Safai Karamcharis have had to go on very long strikes. In fact, in 2018, the then BJP Delhi President Manoj Tiwari had accepted all their demands and promised that the Safai Karamcharis hired between 1998-2003 will be regularised. He had also promised the regularisation of Safai Karamcharis, who were hired on compassionate grounds after 2003,” said Bhardwaj.
