MBS Pledges Net-Zero Carbon Emissions, Intel Report Stokes Doubts

A new intelligence report casts doubt, saying nations that rely heavily on fossil fuel exports will try to slow the transition.

The world’s largest exporter of oil announced a major shift on Saturday. Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said the Gulf state pledges to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2060. 

His public vow comes after a massive leak of documents reportedly showing how nations, including Saudi Arabia, sought to influence UN recommendations on combating climate change. 

An unclassified intelligence report this week assesses countries that rely heavily on fossil fuel exports will resist a fast transition because of the economic and geopolitical costs.
