The pete area — today commonly referred to as Majestic — is the place where Bengaluru began 488 years ago in 1537 and it used to be the nerve centre of the city until recently.
But now, as the city expands without an end and traffic congestion is a big deterrent for people to travel long distances, the area is only a pale shadow of its former self.
On March 7, 2025, as part of the Karnataka Budget 2025-26, CM Siddaramaiah announced that the Kempegowda Bus Stand in Bengaluru will be redeveloped under the Project Majestic scheme. The work will be taken up under a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
Plans include a proposal to turn Majestic into a transport hub consisting of a commercial complex. A satellite bus stand will also be set up in K.R. Puram in Bengaluru East Zone.
