Maid arrested for stealing 95.4 grams of gold from elderly couple in Habsiguda
A 43-year-old domestic worker was arrested by the Osmania University police on Wednesday for stealing 95.4 grams of gold ornaments and cash from the residence of a retired scientist in Habsiguda.
The accused, identified as Allam Tejasvi, a resident of Almasguda, was arrested at the Habsiguda bus stop on Wednesday morning. Police recovered 95.4 grams of gold ornaments worth ₹3.8 lakh and ₹8,000 in cash, with the total property valued at ₹3.88 lakh.
The arrest follows a complaint by P.L.K.M. Rao, 79, a retired scientist residing in Green Hills Colony, who engaged the accused as a caretaker in June 2025 on a monthly salary of ₹18,000, as he and his wife are senior citizens.
Investigations revealed that the accused, who was facing financial difficulties and debts after incurring losses in a small kirana business, stole gold ornaments from the couple’s cupboard on various occasions between October 2025 and February 23, 2026, while carrying out household chores. The stolen items included chains, bangles and rings.
The accused was produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody. Further investigation is under way.
