Maha govt plea seeks transfer of CBI investigation against Deshmukh to SIT

CBI had started the investigation against Anil Deshmukh following an order passed by Bombay High Court in April this year.
The Maharashtra Government has moved a plea in Bombay High Court asking for a special investigation team (SIT) to be constituted to investigate the case that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is currently investigating against former Home Minister Anil Deshmukh and others.Deshmukh and others are facing corruption charges wherein it has been alleged that he asked certain policemen to extort money from various business establishments and that there were monetary gains made by Deshmukh and others over police transfers.
ALSO READ | Anil Deshmukh says not running away from ED, need protection from coercive actionThe Maharashtra government said that Subodh Jaiswal, who is currently heading CBI, was the ex-officio member of the state police establishment board and was directly connected to the police transfers issue. So, in the interest of fairness and justice and for a fair probe, CBI should not be investigating this case, the plea said against the summons issued by the investigating agency to Chief Secretary Sitaram Kunte and DGP Sanjay Pandey to appear before it in connection with the FIR against Anil Deshmukh.In the plea, the state government also sought the investigation by the SIT is monitored by either the high court or a retired high court judge.
