The inaugural ceremony was also attended by Italian Trade Commissioner to Qatar Augusta Smargiassi; Regional Director of Lulu Hypermarkets in Qatar, Shaijan MO, officials from the ITA and the Italian Embassy in Doha, and many dignitaries from the retail sector. The promotional campaign will continue until December 30, which would give the opportunity for shoppers to discover Italian excellence in the food sector, and of course this will encourage the consumption of Italian products. The new promotion showcases many kinds of products in the campaign such as dry groceries, canned vegetables, pasta, rice, cheese and dairy products, biscuits, coffee, olive oil, fresh fruit and vegetables, chocolate, sauces, spices, and condiments, among many more. It is an initiative designed to promote and taste a wide range of ‘Italian products, while telling the unique story of the extraordinary Italian gastronomic heritage. Irrespective of the nationality, commonly people eat Italian food; because it is healthy, of high quality, and meets safety and environmental standards. Consistent year-on-year growth in the export of Italian agro-food to Qatar despite global difficulties caused by the pandemic has been the major indicator of recognition of quality and excellence of Italian products. Inaugurating the promotional campaign, Prunas said: “The festival is impressive as it is being held in the largest Lulu outlets in the world. I am very happy to see so many Italian products showcased under the festival.” He said that Italian Trade Agency in Doha through Italian farmers’ association ‘Coldiretti’ established fruitful relations with Lulu accelerating the export of agricultural produce to Qatar.“The cooperation enabled Lulu to access the Italian agricultural produce directly to the farmers’ association without middlemen benefiting largely to consumers. This also allows bringing those brands of high quality to promote in Qatar market. The cooperation is a win-win situation for all parties – Coldiretti, Lulu and consumers in Doha,” said the ambassador. He said that the initiative of hosting Italian food festival in Lulu outlets will continue in future. “We will keep holding the festival regularly. Lulu opened its business hub in Milan city of Italy which means that the relationship will be enhanced further.” He said that the figures showed that the import of agro-food products from Italy to Qatar is growing steadily thanks to Lulu for playing key role in this regard. “Most of Italian products in Qatar are organic. We have very strict certification process in Italy to ensure the authenticity of organic products,” Prunas said. Lulu Management in a press release, said: “There has been a surging demand and recognition for the products of Italian origin. This is an opportunity for promoting excellent Italian products in Qatar. Thanks to the efforts of Italian Trade Agency.” “Italian food products are very popular in our market and other markets across the world for its excellent quality, highest safety standards and wide varieties; and there is an ever-increasing demand for good quality Italian food products in Qatar and in the region. Since we started trade relations with Italy, we have been able to take our partnership forward by bringing-in the most authentic Italian food products to Qatar. In addition, we have been able to bring all functional food categories – gluten free, organic, and other healthy ranges,” the statement indicates. Lulu Group has initiated extensive promotional campaign through in store branding, newspapers, and radio, social media, booklets and google ads to make the Italian food more popular among the local community.
