Former Chief Minister and Congress leader V. Narayanasamy has accused Puducherry Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan of running a parallel government in the Union Territory.
Addressing a press conference in Puducherry on Friday (March 7, 2025), he alleged that the Lt. Governor was holding regular official-level meetings at Raj Nivas to discuss administrative matters. As per the directions given by the Madras High Court, the Lt. Governor should not interfere in the day-to-day functioning of an elected government, he added.
“The Lt. Governor is trying to run a parallel government, which is against the orders of the High Court. The power to decide on day-to-day administrative matters rests with the elected government,” Mr. Narayanasamy charged.
Speaking about a recent circular issued by the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms, advising heads of departments not to appoint staff illegally, he alleged the AINRC-BJP government continued to flout recruitment rules despite issuance of the circular and court directions.
“Chief Minister N. Rangasamy is known for his decisions allowing backdoor appointments in government departments and societies. Very recently, he has appointed nine persons in the fuel station managed by the Pondicherry State Co-operative Consumers Federation. Such appointments are against recruitment rules and orders of the Supreme Court,” he alleged.
Ganja sales
The Congress leader also highlighted the growing sale of ganja and other narcotic substances in Puducherry. The government should take stern action against police officers who failed in their duty to prevent the sale of ganja in the territory, he said.
