The former president of the Los Angeles City Council stepped down Wednesday after days of calls by officials and the public over her comments from a leaked audio recording.
Numerous local and state leaders, and even President Biden, have called for Martinez and council members Kevin de León and Gil Cedillo to step down. The scandal has engulfed City Hall and prompted hundreds of people pt protest inside and outside Tuesday's City Council meeting. Wednesday's meeting was canceled.
