DPABeirutThe hardline Palestinian organisation Hamas said on Saturday that a blast which happened in a Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon the day before was the result of an electrical fault.“After examining the circumstances, it became clear to us that it was caused by an electrical short circuit in a warehouse containing a quantity of oxygen and gas cylinders designated for coronavirus patients,” the militant group said in a statement.“The fire damaged some properties and losses were limited,” it added.Later on Saturday, Lebanon’s state news agency NNA reported that one person was killed in the blast. It added that more than 10 others suffered smoke inhalation and that two rescue workers were also injured.hamas earlier rejected as baseless reports that the blast had happened in a weapons depot belonging to it in the Burj al-Shimali Palestinian refugee camp in southern Lebanon. On Friday, several explosions rocked the camp, which is located a few kilometres away from the southern Lebanese port city of Tyre.Ten to 12 people were slightly injured in the incident, according to the Palestinian Red Crescent.NNA reported that a weapons depot belonging to Hamas had exploded in the camp.hamas on Saturday denounced what it called a “media misinformation campaign and the dissemination of false news that accompanied the event.” It added that what was published about the causes of the incident, and the death of dozens, is nothing but “fabricated news.” The Lebanese army sealed off the area and reporters were denied access on Saturday to the site where the incident took place, witnesses said. There are some 400,000 Palestinian refugees living in 12 camps scattered across Lebanon.
