Learning is a life-long process, says Irai Anbu

Former Chief Secretary Irai Anbu urges graduands to thank parents, emphasizes lifelong learning and importance of education for society.

Appealing to the graduands to thank their parents for their selfless sacrifice which enabled them to enter higher education portals, former Chief Secretary to Tamil Nadu government Irai Anbu urged the students to learn throughout their lives.

Speaking at the 55th convocation ceremony at M.V. Muthiah Government Women’s College for Arts and Science in Dindigul on Friday, he said not many got the opportunity to enter such higher educational institutions.

Mr Irai Anbu said disseminating knowledge was a great service and the teachers must continue in this noble service and produce more graduates, especially from rural areas and first-time graduates in a family.

He said arts and science were inseparable. Quoting the achievements of stalwarts and scientists such as Beethoven and Thomas Alva Edison, he said, music was the pure form of arts while mathematics remained the pure form of science. In every field, be it music or mathematics, creativity, innovation, observation and understanding, experimentation and exploration were essential.

Mr. Irai Anbu said education not only shaped the lives of women but also improved the economy in the process. Today, most of the powerful positions were held by women, he said and hoped more women were motivated to rise up and hold top positions. Degrees were not intended to be preserved, but must be used for the betterment of the society, he said.

Principal (in charge) K. Naganandini presided. Over 1,000 graduants received their degrees in various disciplines.
