The N.W.T. government says lead levels in the drinking water at two Yellowknife schools are now within prescribed guidelines.
A news release from the territory on Wednesday says restrictions placed on drinking water at École William McDonald Middle School and N.J. Macpherson School have been lifted.
The two schools are among several in the territory where testing over the last year found lead levels that exceeded Health Canada guidelines.
The territory says fixtures used for water such as fountains, including those for food preparation, have now been replaced at École William McDonald Middle School and N.J. Macpherson School and follow-up testing has confirmed water quality.
It adds that procedures have been put in place to maintain safe drinking water such as testing and filter replacement.
The government launched a lead testing protocol for drinking water in schools across the territory in October last year.
The procedures were drawn up after results showed lead levels in three schools exceeded Health Canada recommendations.
