KL Rahul is being groomed for India captaincy role, says chief selector Chetan Sharma

India tour of South Africa: The BCCI on Friday appointed KL Rahul as the captain of India's ODI team for a 3-match series in South Africa. Rohit Sharma, who was named as the full-time captain last month, missed out as he failed to recover in time from a hamstring injury.
Chairman of India's senior selection committee, Chetan Sharma said the selectors are definitely looking to groom KL Rahul as captain, keeping an eye on the future. The former cricketer's comments came after Rahul was appointed as the captain of the Indian ODI team in the absence of injured Rohit Sharma for the 3-match series in South Africa.
Rohit Sharma, who was named as India's full-time ODI captain last month, has not recovered in time from his hamstring injury to lead the side in the 3-match series, starting January 19 in South Africa. Rahul was named the captain of the 18-man squad while fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was named his deputy.
