The press secretary argued that President Donald Trump's social media messages about the death penalty aren't the real cause for concern.
Asked about President Donald Trump’s unhinged social media post in which he boosted a message calling for the execution of members of Congress, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt dismissed the threat, saying that no one should “defy” Trump.
Trump reposted a message on his Truth Social page Thursday that said “HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!” He wrote his own post that said, “SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!”
The comments were in response to Democratic veterans in Congress who released a video urging members of the military not to follow unlawful orders.
Rep. Jason Crow (D-Colo.), one of the six Democrats in the video, said Wednesday that the group made the video out of concern for potential future illegal orders by Trump.
“It’s called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL,” the president wrote in a post. “Each one of these traitors to our Country should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL. Their words cannot be allowed to stand - We won’t have a Country anymore!!! An example MUST BE SET. President DJT.”
