Tamil Nadu men’s and women’s teams notched up victories on the opening day of the 72nd junior National basketball championships at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium here on Saturday.

In the men’s section, Tamil Nadu took out Uttarakhand 109-60, while the women’s team defeated Uttar Pradesh 87-55. 

Mekhala Gowda and Aadhya Gowda (17 points each) helped host Karnataka defeat Andhra Pradesh 68-56 in the women’s section.
