In May, Jets general manager Joe Douglas said signing safety Marcus Maye to a long-term deal was “a priority.”
With the franchise tag extension deadline expiring July 15, that seems to be more of a dream than reality. Maye’s camp, per NFL Network’s Ian Rappaport, have taken their final offer off of the table after the Jets apparently failed to respond to their last contract proposal. Maye appears headed toward playing the 2021 season on a one-year deal.
SAN DIEGO — As you may have seen elsewhere in this newspaper (and also if you haven’t deleted me yet from your social media), I have a book coming out Tuesday called “The Bosses of The Bronx.” Much of it details the 37 years’ worth of antics, winning, losing, winning again and overall mania of George Steinbrenner’s time with the Yankees.

Cade Cunningham, almost inarguably the best player in the East this season, is likely out for the remainder of the regular season. That’s the word out of Detroit following the depressing news that Cunningham punctured a lung when he took a knee to his side Tuesday from Washington’s Tre Johnson while chasing a loose ball.

Wednesday was another positive day at Yankees camp. For the first time since March 6, 2025 — an outing in which he knew “something wasn’t right,” which began a weeks-long saga that ended on the operating table for Tommy John surgery — Gerrit Cole was back on a mound and facing hitters in game action.
