Jaclyn Moore of 'Dear White People' boycotts Netflix over Dave Chappelle's anti-transgender jokes
CNN
Jaclyn Moore, writer and showrunner on the series "Dear White People," is boycotting Netflix after the streamer released Dave Chappelle's latest stand-up special, which contained a slew of jokes aimed at transgender people.
Chappelle's special, "The Closer," includes several minutes of jokes about trans people and the LGBTQ community. At one point, Chappelle said he was "team TERF," referencing the term for "trans-exclusionary radical feminist," and joked about trans women's genitalia. He also said that "gender is a fact" and told a story about beating up a lesbian woman.
The comedian made the jokes during a historic year for anti-transgender legislation, introduced in at least 33 states, and less than a year after a record-high number of transgender people, most of them trans women of color, were killed.
