The director of the Uffizi Galleries has called for a 'sandwich tax' on street food stalls, to cover the expense of cleaning up after takeout lunches. Meanwhile, as tourists return, the mayor has banned evening weekend walks in popular parts of the historic center.
(CNN) — As the tourists head back to Italy, one of the cities that has suffered most at the hands of tourism is fighting back. In a bid to avoid overcrowding during the pandemic, authorities in Florence have announced that people will be banned from the city's most popular nightlife areas, unless they've been eating or drinking in the area. And in a bid to tackle the side effects of tourism, one of the city's most important voices has called for a tax on street food stalls.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth risked compromising sensitive military information that could have endangered US troops through his use of Signal to discuss attack plans, a Pentagon watchdog said in an unclassified report released Thursday. It also details how Hegseth declined to cooperate with the probe.
